I did manage to land in the north end neighborhood through sheer happenstance, and that likely plays a significant factor in feeling so comfortable. ![]() I typically read as queer to others, and I’ve had a very warm welcome here. I’m a woman in my 30s who just moved here. Even though it won’t probably directly affect you personally, you might not want to live in a place where, for instance, trans minors are forbidden from receiving the medical standard of care. So the overall environment is pretty toxic. There are a number of anti-LGBTQ bills under consideration in the statehouse and anti-LGBTQ groups protesting schools and libraries. Boise has “added the words” of “sexual orientation and gender identity” to its non-discrimination policies, but the State of Idaho has not.Īlso, Idaho like much of the nation is currently gripped in a trans panic. The further you go out into the surrounding metro, the less welcoming it may be. That said, I’d make sure your job offer is generous enough to live in Boise. I take my family to the annul Pride parade, and it’s a lovely time with a few thousand of other like-minded folks. Not a member of the LGBTQ community myself so take with a grain of salt.
